James Lee Burke was born in Houston, Texas, USA. He is an American author of mysteries, best known for his Dave Robicheaux series. He earned a BA degree(1959) and an MA degree(1960) in English Literature from the University of Missouri. He taught at five different colleges before getting on the tenure track teaching creative writing at Wichita State University during the 1980s. He has written several novels include: To the Bright and Shining Sun, The Lost Get-Back Boogie, The Neon Rain, Heaven's Prisoners, Black Cherry Blues(Won- Edgar Award for Best Novel), A Morning for Flamingoes, Dixie City Jam(Won- Hammett Prize), Burning Angel, Cadillac Jukebox, Cimarron Rose(Won- Edgar Award for Best Novel), Sunset Limited, Purple Cane Road, Bitterroot, White Doves at Morning, In the Moon of Red Ponies, and The Tin Roof Blowdown(Won- Gumshoe Award for Best Mystery).
