Granville Stanley Hall was born in Ashfield, Massachusetts, USA. He was a pioneering American psychologist and educator. His interests focused on childhood development and evolutionary theory. He was the first president of the American Psychological Association and the first president of Clark University. In 1878, he received his Ph.D. in psychology under William James mentoring at Harvard; this was the first Ph.D. in psychology awarded in America. He was a professor of Psychology and Pedagogics at John Hopkins University until 1888. He wrote several books include: Adolescence, Senescence, the Last Half of Life, Jesus, The Christ, In The Light Of Psychology, Aspects Of Child Life And Education, and Educational problems.
